Gezinshuis Kupang op Timor

Timor is a rugged, dry island and one of the poorer regions of Indonesia. There is little work, and many people look for work on other islands or abroad. Families are under pressure as a result.

The Setia Kupang family house stands in the farming area just outside Kupang. Children, with or without a parent, find temporary and safe shelter there and can go to school. There is room for twenty people; in the hall they eat together and the children do their homework. When families or children can continue on their own, they leave the family house.

The family house runs largely on farming. On one hectare of land grow shallots and maize, there is an orchard, there are pigs and chickens and two fish ponds. The yield is for the family house, and residents learn first-hand how to set up something of their own.

The income is not yet enough. We work with students and with residents of the family house. The leader of the family house is still studying and hopes to complete his university degree this year (2026). Farming and livestock take time, and a harvest sometimes disappoints. Even so, the family house needs money for daily necessities, school fees for the children, clothing and medical care. Will you help?
